The Star-K issued a special alert regarding gas cooking products:

Bosch Cooking Products UPDATE
March 16, 2016
Please note the following about the Bosch HGI8054UC and HGIP054UC models of slide-in gas ranges: The oven’s heating source shuts off immediately when the door is opened and re-ignites when it is closed, even when the oven is in Sabbath Mode. Consumers are advised not to open or close the oven door on Shabbos or YomTov while the oven is on. If you own one of these models, please contact george.may@bshg.com or tyler.corby@bshg.com. Please provide your name, phone number, and email address, so that the company can coordinate service. The manufacturer is working on a fix to be provided, hopefully, before Passover. Updates will be posted on our website.

KASHRUS ALERTS

Some RED BELL PEPPERS FROM ISRAEL  were mistakenly sold at One Stop  during the last one or two days, and require taking of Terumos and Maaseros. Check for a sticker saying “Produce of Israel”. If a red pepper with no sticker was bought at One Stop in the last two days, it also may be from Israel.

FRESH JAFFA MANDARINS FROM ISRAEL – MEHADRIN GROWERS The OU does not certify fresh Jaffa mandarins that grow during Shemitah and are sold using a “heter mechira”. Some Jaffa – Mehadrin Growers mandarins which state “heter mechira” on the box bears an unauthorized OU symbol, and should not be purchased. If already purchased, consult your Rav.

NICE! brand MANDARIN ORANGES in 8 ounce bottles sold at Walgreens has been recalled due to potential glass in the product. Details are available at  http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm480639.htm#recall-photos or at 562-921-2800 (8 AM5 PM PST).

Reminder – BASKIN ROBBINS ROCKY ROAD ICE CREAM and BASKIN ROBBINS PINK BUBBLE GUM ICE CREAMvarieties are not Kosher, and therefore do not bear a Star-D on their containers.

A Service of the COR of Greater Detroit

BELL PEPPERS FROM ISRAEL are now being sold at local stores (Meijer, Walmart, Sam’s Club, etc.) and include Sunset brand, Field & Farm, Mor and other brands of colored peppers. Consumers should carefully check the fine print on the package, or the sticker on peppers sold loose, for the country of origin. The same brand may have a mixture of some from Israel and some from other locations, so each package or pepper should be checked. At this time it is recommended not to buy peppers from Israel, because it is unclear whether or not they present a Shemita (sefichin) problem. If already purchased, consult your Rav.

Consumers should always be careful when buying produce to check the sticker, bag label or original case for the country of origin, due to issues of Shemitah (fruit from Israel will be Shemitah product well into 2016), or of Terumos and Maaseros if it is not Shemitah product. Some additional examples of Israeli produce commonly found in the U.S. include tomatoes, carrots, citrus fruit, persimmons, pomelos, dates, and parsley.
