IMPORTANT KASHRUS ALERT

Some bags of SUNSET SWEET BELL PEPPERS – 3 Count (red, orange and yellow) that state on the back “Product of Mexico and Israel” were mistakenly sold at One Stop. If you have one of these bags, it should be returned to the store. (Most bags say only “Product of Mexico”.)

The Coville Apartments facilities are now under the kashrus supervision of the Vaad Harabbonim, and are certified Kosher Non-Mehadrin.

Coville Apartments are located at 15106 W. 10 Mile Road, Oak Park, MI.

Kashrus Alert: Bell Peppers from Israel

BELL PEPPERS FROM ISRAEL are now being sold locally at Meijer. Sunset loose red bell peppers bear a sticker that states Israel, and Sunset Organic Sweet Bell Peppers (2 count package of yellow and red, or orange and red) state Product of Israel on the package. These products have the status of Shemittah, and should not be purchased. If already purchased, consult your Rav.

Consumers should always be careful when buying produce to check the sticker, bag label or original case for the country of origin, due to issues of Shemittah, or of Terumos and Maaseros if it is not Shemittah product. Some additional examples of Israeli produce commonly found in the U.S. include tomatoes, citrus fruit, persimmons, pomelos, dates and parsley.

THE LATEST ON OREO COOKIES

AT THE PRESENT TIME, MOST VARIETIES OF OREO COOKIES CONTAIN DAIRY INGREDIENTS, WITH THREE NOTABLE EXCEPTIONS. ORIGINAL OREO SANDWICH COOKIES, OREO DOUBLE STUF SANDWICH COOKIES AND MINI ORIGINAL OREO SANDWICH COOKIES DO NOT CONTAIN DAIRY INGREDIENTS, THOUGH THEY ARE MANUFACTURED ON DAIRY EQUIPMENT. THE EQUIPMENT IS NOT NECESSARILY CLEANED BEFORE THE PRODUCTION OF THESE THREE COOKIES, AND THERE MAY BE A SMALL AMOUNT OF DAIRY RESIDUE PRESENT. NONETHELESS, THE DAIRY COMPONENT WOULD BE MINIMAL, AND FROM A HALACHIC PERSPECTIVE, THE DAIRY RESIDUE IS NULLIFIED (BOTEL BISHISHIM) AND OF NO CONSEQUENCE. THE BOTTOM LINE OF ALL THIS IS THAT THESE THREE COOKIES MAY BE CONSUMED AFTER MEAT AND POULTRY, BUT NOT SIMULTANEOUSLY.

PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT THE MANUFACTURER MAY CHOOSE IN THE FUTURE TO REFORMULATE THESE PRODUCTS AND ADD DAIRY INGREDIENTS. SINCE THESE PRODUCTS ALREADY BEAR OUD SYMBOLS, FORMULATION CHANGES WOULD NOT BE REFLECTED IN THE OUD LOGO. AS SUCH, WE RECOMMEND THAT CONSUMERS CHECK REGULARLY WITH THE OU OFFICE TO CONFIRM THE STATUS OF THESE ITEMS.
