ADDITIONAL ALERT REGARDING FERRARA CANDY
FERRARA CANDY CO. – CHEWY LEMONHEAD FRUIT MIX CANDIES in a 5 Pack package is being sold locally at Dollar Tree and other stores with an unauthorized UMK symbol on the outside sticker label. The individual boxes themselves do not bear any Kosher marking, and they state “Product of Mexico”. These candies are not certified, and are produced in a non-Kosher facility.
The only Ferrara candies that remain under acceptable certification are Atomic Fireballs and Jawbreakers, and only when they bear the UMK symbol on each individual box.
Boxes of CHEWY LEMONHEAD candies that bear a UMK symbol on the individual box and also state “Product of U.S.A.” on the box, and do not state “Product of Mexico” in the ink jet code on the side of the box, are old product that was produced years ago under UMK certification and are Kosher. (The year of production can be determined from the first digit of the ink jet production code. 5 = 2015, 6 = 2016, etc.)

MEIJER brand CANOLA, CANOLA BLEND, CORN and VEGETABLE OILS used to bear an OU on their labels, but no longer do, and may have changed to a non-Kosher supplier. We are in the process of verifying their status.
JACK RABBIT BARLEY with code dates 06Jul18L and 22Sep18L has been found to be infested, and should not be used without checking the product thoroughly. Each entire bag should be examined by placing a small pile of barley – about two ounces at a time – on a white paper plate (not plastic, which creates a shine) with a very good overhead light that illuminates the plate. Use a finger or a fork to drag a small amount of barley away from the pile, spreading that barley in a single layer. Visually inspect the spread-apart barley, looking for webbing, black insects and white or tan worms between or under the kernels. Repeat this until the entire pile has been checked. Then do the same for the rest of the barley in the package.
Consumers who store barley or other grains for extended amounts of time are advised to store these products in the refrigerator or freezer in order to prevent infestation.
BENECOL ORIGINAL SPREAD and BENECOL LIGHT SPREAD, which in the past were OU Pareve, have recently been reformulated with buttermilk and whey, and now bear OU-D.
BEST CHOICE REFRIED BEANS in Traditional and Jalapeno varieties bear an unauthorized OU symbol on some labels. These products contain lard and are not Kosher.

From the 2017-06-27 Kashrus Alerts:
The K-COR strongly recommends that Slurpees be bought only at stores that have store-level Kashrus supervision of their slurpees, to be assured that the syrup box that feeds the machine is actually Kosher and pareve. The flavor cards on the machine cannot be relied upon, even if they bear a Kosher symbol, because stores sometimes use syrups that do not correspond with the brand or variety posted on the machine. In addition, when changing flavors, stores generally do not clean the machine in-between, and during the transition there can be a significant mixture of flavors, one of which may be non-Kosher or dairy.
The K-COR provides supervision for Slurpees at five local 7-Eleven stores, but only for the machine(s) specified on the K-COR certificate posted at each location, as follows:
If one is in an area where no supervised stores are available, the K-COR recommends that Slurpees not be bought unless the consumer is able to inspect the label on the box of syrup which feeds the Slurpee machine, to verify its Kosher and pareve (or dairy) status. [The box of syrup that feeds the machine is generally located in the back of the store, in an area which is off limits to non-employees, and cannot be entered without express permission from the store manager.]
